Where It All Started

Lyrically Correct is a brand born from the owners’ love for music, especially Hip-Hop. That’s why our first-ever deck is the OG - the '90s & '00s Hip-Hop and R&B Edition. From then on, we made deck after deck to celebrate the universal language of music. But before Lyrically Correct became the brand that it is now, let’s go back to who and what inspired us.

Let’s backtrack to Day 1, about 50 years ago.

One of the first American hip-hop groups, The Sugarhill Gang, made history in 1979 with their hit "Rapper's Delight," which became the first rap single to break into the Billboard Hot 100's Top 40. Their influence reached artists like Dr. Dre, who brought attention to the violence and struggles of street life, and Queen Latifah, who used her rap lyricism to highlight women's hardships. The 1990s introduced artists like Jay-Z and Eminem, who gained recognition for breaking racial barriers in pop music and expressing millennials’ difficulties through their lyrics. The 2000s was a time when even more Hip-Hop artists like Kanye West and Missy Elliott emerged bringing Hip-Hop further into the spotlight.

From the Old School Hip-Hop of the ‘70s to the popularity of rap collaborations in the 2000s to the resurgence of Hip-Hop in 2024, we can say that Hip-Hop is an ever-evolving genre of music. It is a culture and an art form like no other, bringing great messages to the ears of many.

Now, we see Hip-Hop everywhere, not just in the streets of New York, but also worldwide. When was the last time you saw someone dance to a rap song on TikTok? Probably very recently. Hip-hop music is the backbone of a lot of songs we hear everywhere, whether it’s at a random club down the street or on the Instagram Explore page. Lyrically Correct has always been and will always be a proud celebrator of Hip-hop.
